Holy Week in Guatemala is one of the most anticipated religious and cultural events in the country. During these days, processions, vigils, funeral marches, and the enjoyment of rich gastronomy, carpet making, and summer events take place. Holy Week commemorates the passion, death, and resurrection of Christ and was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2022.
Holy Week in 2024 will take place from March 24th to 31st of 2024. During this week in Guatemala, there is an atmosphere of reflection, devotion, and relaxation, as it is also a vacation period for Guatemalans.
This break is enjoyed at beaches, theme parks, and other tourist sites in Guatemala. Some of the most visited ones include:
- Antigua Guatemala
- Pacific beaches such as Puerto San José, El Paredón, Monterrico, and others
- Izabal
- Panajachel, San Pedro La Laguna, Santa Catarina Palopó in Sololá
- Alta Verapaz and Baja Verapaz
- Petén
- Quetzaltenango
- Esquipulas
Additionally, we recommend visiting Grutas del Rey Marcos, Jardines de Provenza, Parque Natural Ixpanpajul, and Hotel y Spa Santa Teresita.
If you plan to visit Guatemala during these dates, contact tour operators, travel agencies, and lodging committed to the best sustainability practices and holding national and international certifications for tourism quality.
